Security Tips For Businesses
The best way to deal with security problems is to seek the advice of experts and plan ahead. There are three main areas to cover when it comes to your company's security: Internet security; employee security; and property security. Developing a plan for each of these areas can reduce the amount of loss due to security breakdowns.
Internet Security
Limit access to your internal Internet equipment to a few select employees, managers and executives. Give passwords only to this group of people, and change Internet account access passwords frequently. Work with your Internet team to provide an adequate firewall that allows your customers to access your servers. Be sure your encryption is strong enough to detect if someone is trying to hack into your network through your website, and create regular backups of all your data and store them at a secure, off-site location.
Employee Security
Train your employees on workplace safety, the procedures to follow if something were to go wrong and how to identify potential problems. Install a video monitoring system throughout your building so you know who is entering the building at all times and what they are doing. Institute a badge system that allows access only to employees and their guests. A badge system also can help limit access to sensitive areas of the building.
Property Security
If you own a retail location, be sure that all cash registers are securely anchored and password protected. Install silent alarms that can be triggered by employees during a robbery. Consider using motion-detection technology to let you know when someone is in particular areas. When you use padlocks on outside equipment, install the locks at least 8 feet off the ground.
